Is 'Zebra Striping' A Better Approach To Alcohol?

Zebra striping is the practice of alternating between an alcoholic drink and a non-alcoholic one - like water, soda, zero‑proof beer, or a mocktail - during a night out.  Experts say it helps slow down alcohol intake, keeps you hydrated, and reduces the number of empty calories you consume - helping to prevent hangovers and maintain better judgment.

The founder of Mingle Mocktails, Laura Taylor, describes this shift: “Being alcohol-free is no longer seen as a punishment … zebra striping is a prime example of how the culture is becoming more inclusive”. She positions mocktails not just as substitutes, but as intentional, vibrant choices integral to a balanced social experience.
